UNIVERSITY SYSTEM BOARD MEETING CHANGED TO MONDAY IN BANGOR
BANGOR - The University of Maine System Board of Trustees meeting scheduled to be held at the University of Maine at Machias on Sunday and Monday, March 13-14, will not take place as originally scheduled.
Instead, the Board will hold a one-day meeting on Monday, March 14, at the UMS office on Maine Ave. in Bangor. Most of the committee and business items on the original agenda will be dealt with on Monday, with other informational items postponed until the Board's next meeting.
Board Chairman Charles L. Wick Johnson III and System Chancellor Joseph W. Westphal made the decision late Thursday morning. They cited concerns about predictions of treacherous weather conditions on Sunday and the possibility that it could affect members' ability to attend and participate. Under Board by-laws, at least nine of the 16 trustees must be present for the Board to act on agenda items.
Monday's more favorable weather forecast, and a change of location to Bangor, increased the likelihood that trustees could accommodate its most pressing committee work and business session in a one-day session.
Johnson and Westphal decided to schedule an additional one-day Board meeting, to be held in Machias in late April. Normally the Board does not meet in that month.
A revised agenda for Monday's meeting may be found at: http://www.maine.edu/magendas.shtml
